I once saw a video about the prison. Unfortunately, I couldn't find it on YouTube.
Here's the gist of it: these people are not in this prison for petty crimes. The prison had some serious problems before Byron Garcia headed it. Garcia cracked down on corruption, and he made sure prisoners treated each other respectfully. And he introduced dancing, a rehabilitation activity. Dancing, and other prison reforms, have significantly changed many inmates' lives for the better.
I was saddened by how hard it was to find a video about Garcia's reforms—and I didn't, not this time at least.
